# Quoting & Proposal Drafter

Builds three pricing options, writes the full proposal copy, and drafts the short email that goes with it. Use this skill any time I say "quote this scope", "write a proposal for [lead]", "price this up", "how much should I charge for this", "draft a proposal", "I need to send pricing to [name]", or any variation of turning a discovery call or scope into a quote and proposal package. Always use this skill rather than writing pricing or proposal copy from scratch.

## Before quoting, confirm:

1. Do I have the full scope (from a discovery call recap, a brief, or pasted notes)?
2. Is the lead's name and any context known?
3. If the rate card is uploaded as a reference, am I pulling from it?

## Step 1: Price it

Read the scope carefully. Then give the user three pricing options:

- **Essentials** — the minimum viable version of what they asked for. Stripped back. Fast.
- **The Full Build** — what they actually asked for, done properly. This is the one to recommend.
- **Plus** — Full Build with one or two extras that make sense for them based on what they said.

For each option:
- One-line description
- What's included (bullet list)
- What's NOT included (bullet list of common assumptions to head off scope creep)
- Price (use the user's rate card and base rate to calculate)
- Timeline (in weeks)
- Payment structure (e.g. 50% deposit, 50% on completion)

Always recommend the middle option in plain words and explain why.

## Step 2: Write the proposal

Draft the proposal copy in this structure:

1. **Hi [Lead Name]** — two-line opener that references something specific they said
2. **What you're working on** — one paragraph that mirrors their problem back so they know they were heard
3. **What I'd build for you** — the recommended option, written in plain words, with the three sub-pieces (essentials / full / plus) underneath as visual options
4. **The process** — 4 to 6 phases, with what happens in each and roughly how long
5. **What I'll need from you** — the inputs and decisions they need to provide on time
6. **What I won't do** — the boundaries (no extra rounds beyond what's quoted, no out-of-scope additions without a new quote, etc.)
7. **The investment** — the three options laid out with prices
8. **Next step** — accept the option you want by replying with "Option X" and I'll send the deposit invoice

## Step 3: Write the send-it email

The email that goes with the proposal. Maximum 100 words. Structure:
- Reference 1 thing from the last conversation
- One line saying "the proposal is attached"
- One line saying "have a read, three options inside, the middle one is what I'd recommend for you"
- One line offering to jump on a quick call if anything is unclear
- Sign off in the user's voice

## Output format

Deliver in this order:
1. The three pricing options (table format if it works)
2. The full proposal copy (ready to paste into the user's template)
3. The send-it email (ready to paste into Gmail)
4. A short note flagging anything risky in the scope, anything to clarify, or anything to price up separately

## Copy rules

- Never invent inclusions or features that weren't discussed
- Never quote outside the user's actual rate card
- Always include payment structure and timeline (these are where things go wrong)
- Always include a "what I won't do" section. This is what protects the user when scope creeps
- No em dashes — use commas or full stops instead
- Never use these words: unlock, transform, elevate, level up, game-changer, leverage, hustle, scale, manifest, empower
- Australian English (analyse, organise, colour, etc.)
- Warm and direct. Never hype, never corporate
- If the scope is unclear, list the questions to ask the lead before quoting (don't guess)

## After running the skill

Tell the user:
1. Sense-check the pricing against the rate card before sending
2. Adjust timelines if the lead has a real deadline
3. Drop the proposal copy into your usual template (Canva, Notion, PDF) and send the email with it
4. If you change anything before sending, tell me what and why so I learn your judgement

Six steps, no tech required

Copy the skill above

Hit the Copy skill button. The whole thing is on your clipboard.

Open Claude.ai and go to Settings

Click your profile icon in the top right, then open Settings.

Find the Skills section

Look for Skills (or Custom Skills, depending on your plan).

Click "Add custom skill"

Paste the skill content into the editor.

Customise the placeholders, name it, save

Replace the four placeholders with your real numbers. Name it "Quoting & Proposal Drafter" and save.

Test it on a real scope

Start a chat and say "Quote this scope: [paste your discovery call recap]". Claude should run the skill and return the full quote package.

You'll need

A Claude Pro subscription. The skill works in Chat and Cowork. Recommended: upload your rate card and 2-3 past proposals as references so Claude can pull real numbers and match your voice.


Why I built this one

Quoting was my biggest bottleneck for years. I'd put it off, then sit down on a Sunday night and write three of them in a row, undercharging on at least one because I was tired by the third.

The actual writing of the proposal was the easy part. The friction was the staring at the blank page. Once Claude started giving me a draft to react to, I could quote within 24 hours of every call. That alone changed my conversion rate.
